Rooms in Birka
← Back to Areas
- Animal Pen - Old slotted wooden posts form the fence that pens the village's animals secure. The unmistakable odor of manure wafts through the area. The cattle are grazing on the sparse blades of grass quite oblivious to their surroundings. The sheep and goats are wandering aimlessly through their pens. Slow quiet movements are recommended through here lest the animals become riled.
- AstroMUD Rapid Tran Station - AstroMUD Rapid Transit Station You stand in an enormous Rapid Transit station. This is where the AstroMUD Rapid Transit System (tm) loads and unloads all its passengers. All around you the buzz of voices and the occasional bell and whistle hum in your ears. The floor is covered with spotless white tiles and the walls and ceiling trimmed in blue. Most certainly this is a very clean and well kept system, just don't miss your train!
- Before the Great Tree - Runes of various sorts can be seen long the walls. To the left you can see a strange chair, decorated with odd sculptures and ornaments. To the right is a table where dead animals have been put. Crows, sheep heads, and snakes are a few of the animals you can pick out. Just beside the table there is a fireplace with a large iron pot standing over it.
- Before the gates of Birka - Two large torches burn bright on either side of the gates to the village. Birka, a major viking village, is known for its shrewed traders and ruthless raiders, but, best not judge on hearsay. The walls encircling the city are a formidable deterant for any who would try an attack on the village.
- Chief's room - This is the Chieftan's private quartes. Looks to be a secure room. The door to the south being the only exit. An ornate oil lamp is burning away while casting some light upon the scrolls that lie upon the desk. A large bed covered with various furs is off in the corner. The insigna of Birka decorates the wall.
- Dirt path - The path is partially lined with pine trees. Most hurry past not taking note of their beauty. The distinctive smell of the sea is here, brought by the strong winds.
- Helgi Street - It is inconcievable how this village has survived living in such a harsh environment. The frigid winds speed around the buildings and the few trees that line this street. Three lone torches burn along here defying the cold. Villagers walk along here bundled in their furs just happy that winter isn't yet upon them.
- Home of Sjolf the Fat - A warm fire burns in the far corner of this small hut. The wooden table holds what could be a feast for 10 men....now who could eat that much?!? Sjolf the Fat can! His wife Helga spends most of the day preparing the meals for her ravenous husband. Ribs are roasting right now over the fire. The thought of a hot meal in a warm house is quite apealing right now...Look there's Helga bringing even more food to the table.
- Inside the Chief's Hut - Oh no... You've just interrupted a meeting. The elders of the village quickly try to hide the maps and papers that are spread about on the large conference table. Furs have been drawn to cover the windows, what ever they are trying to plan here they want kept secret.
- Inside the Chief's Hut - This is the Chieftan's private quartes. Looks to be a secure room. The door to the south being the only exit. An ornate oil lamp is burning away while casting some light upon the scrolls that lie upon the desk. A large bed covered with various furs is off in the corner. The insigna of Birka decorates the wall.
- Near the docks - The crystal blue waters can be seen all around. There are ships of all types moored in the waters not too far off from the docks to the west. Several smaller boats can be seen rowing out towards their mother ship loading and unloading supplies and goods. The path to the south leads toward the village proper.
- Outside Chief Hut - There are definate advantages to being the Chieftan. This hut is by far the most luxurious you have seen thus far. Furs adorn the walls as do medals and other regalia. An elaborately carved table holds papers and maps. A large fireplace keeps the hut warm.
- Outside of Temple - The torches along the side of the road continue to burn throwing their warmth, what little there is to the appreciative passersby. The chanting is getting louder as you look to the west and see a small crowd of people near the temple. Warriors in full battle gear are seen off in the distance to the north, they seem to be protecting something ahead.
- Path through the shipyard - The sounds of shorebirds and the crash of the waves are louder here. This shipyard is a busy place. Slivers of wood lie scattered on the path from the detailed carving of a Dragonhead for one of the villager's longships. A formidable lock on the door of the building to the east indicates someone's desire to keep everyone out.
- Portal to Valhalla - The sun shining down along the path fills you with a warm peaceful feeling. This is truely Valhalla, where the gods reside and where deserving warriors are welcomed to partake of the bounty of this realm.
- Shaman's Temple - There is a magical presence near here. The villagers are waiting here, some chanting to themselves, waiting to enter the temple and see the Shaman....looking for guidance, or to offer gifts for their gods.
- Smithery - The heat from the forge here is a welcome change from the cold weather and winds outside. Pails of water await to cool the pieces of metal from the fire. There is a dirty grime covering the majority of the floor, walls, and ceiling from the constant burning fire. A small wooden bowl is on the table on the western wall. Various axes and swords, as well as finished pieces of chainmail custom made for each buyer hang upon the walls.
- Svip Street - The icy winds continue to whip down the streets causing the torches to flicker. To the north is the entrance to the Chieftan's hut. The south would lead you back towards the temple and tradecenter.
- Svip Street - Just outside of the Chieftan's hut. This is where Birka's future is decided. Who to trade with, what near by villages may attack, how to keep the gods happy...so much is discussed here. The Chieftan's body guards stand here in full battle gear watching you closely.
- The Great Feast - Out of nowhere, or so it seems, a huge tree stands here. You've heard the rumors but could it actually be true? Is this the Tree of Life?
- Toki Street - Donner sends shockwaves towards Aiden. Donner sends shockwaves towards Tayn. Donner MUTILATES you with his MAULS!! Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner INJURES you with his MAULS. Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner hits Tayn with a shockwave! Donner INJURES you with his MAULS. Donner MUTILATES you with his MAULS!! Donner MUTILATES you with his MAULS!! Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner hits Tayn with a shockwave! Donner MAULS you with his MAULS!! Donner rips apart the fabric of time and space The villagers' homes are clustered along this route. The majority of the homes are small wooden huts with thatched roofs. Villagers brush by and enter the hut to the east where laughter and music are easily heard, sounds like a celebration.
- Valhalla - A crystal blue stream flows through the glorious fields of wheat and grain here. Birds flying about from place to place singing without a care in the world.
- Valhalla - The path continues through the fields here. Something strange is happening here...it is too quiet, as it would be say, right before a big storm. Clouds heavy clouds are coming in from the west...something is brewing close by.
- Valhalla - You have reached what seems to be a peaceful and quiet spot, though, it is a tad *too* quiet, a deathly quiet. The crystal clear river that you were following through Valhalla has abruptly stopped flowing, all has become stagnant here.
- Valhalla - A beautiful sun setting across the ocean. Another day in Valhalla is just about over... It is closing in on time for the feast! Off at the grand hut off to the east Njord, a mighty Sailor and God might be willing to show you the way.
- Valhalla - Laughter fills this great hall. Gods and warriors who have died in battle are here partaking of the great feast, as they do each night and every night.
